# Unit 4 tote transport by AMR

Two things in this file: what the customer asked for, and our robot's datasheet.
Both the customer (Corrin & Vale Homewares) and the robot (Brindlefield BF-T1) are fictional.

## 1. The customer's brief (email from their operations manager, 28 Sep)

> Drawing CV-U4-GA-101 Rev C is attached (PDF, and a PNG of the same sheet).
>
> Today our pickers push finished totes to packing on trolleys. We want robots to take the
> finished totes from the three P&D stands (one at the end of each pick zone) to the packing benches.
>
> - **Peak**: 110 orders per hour, about 2.6 lines per order. The peak runs from 10:00 to 12:30. Please design for the peak.
> - **One order = one tote, picked in one zone.** Share of orders by zone: A 45 %, B 35 %, C 20 %.
> Pickers put the finished tote on the P&D stand of their zone. Picking itself is out of scope:
> take it that finished totes appear on the stands at those rates.
> - **Packing**: 4 benches, one packer each, about 100 s per order on average
> (60 s at the quickest, 180 s at the slowest, most around 90 s). The packer takes the tote
> from the robot's drop position at the bench.
> - **Charging**: we marked an area by the east wall where chargers could go (there is power there).
> Tell us if somewhere else would be better.
> - **Layout**: if moving the packing benches would save robots, we could move all four to the open
> floor south of the pick zones (between the P&D stands and the office). The outbound staging
> and the docks stay where they are.
> - **What we need from you**: how many robots, and the evidence for it; a drawing that shows
> where the robots run and where the chargers go; and a comparison we can show our operations director.

## 2. Our robot: Brindlefield BF-T1 tote runner (datasheet extract)

| Item | Value |
|---|---|
| Footprint | 0.80 × 0.60 m; for layout studies treat it as a circle of radius 0.5 m |
| Payload | one tote (600 × 400 mm, up to 30 kg) on a powered roller top |
| Transfer | automatic, to and from roller stands and bench roller shelves: 12 s to take a tote from a P&D stand, 12 s to put it on a bench |
| Speed | 1.5 m/s maximum; use **1.0 m/s average** for layout studies (acceleration, turns and slow zones included) |
| Aisles | 1.2 m clear for one-way travel, 2.0 m for two-way |
| Battery | about 8 h on a full charge. Opportunity charging: at peak duty, **6 minutes on the charger per hour of work** (about 10 % of the time) keeps the battery level |
| Charger | wall unit 0.6 × 0.4 m, needs 1.5 m clear in front; we fit one charger per robot |
| Fleet manager | sends the nearest free robot to each tote; an idle robot waits where it dropped its last tote unless it needs to charge |
