Start from the hospital model (no sign-up needed; running a simulation is Pro). Where outpatients have a blood test before their consultation, the blood collection room fills up in the morning. In this article, on the hospital model’s outpatient ground floor, your AI simulates a morning at the blood collection. It ran the same tools an AI calls over MCP. Every number below comes from that run.
1. The blood collection room and the morning
- The ground floor’s blood collection room has six booths. In one change (
edit_space), the AI tagged the patients’ chairs of the six booths and drew a blood test waiting area between the benches and the booths.check_spacefinds nothing.
The AI wrote this flow as a scenario (put_process_scenario).
- The room opens at 8:30. 200 outpatients come for a blood test before their consultation.
- 30 % of them are already waiting in the blood test waiting area when it opens. The others come from the reception waiting area at random until 11:30: 22 % in the first half hour, then 20, 17, 15, 14 and 12 % a half hour.
- Each waits in the blood test waiting area for the first free of the 5 staff, and has their blood taken at a free booth (2 to 7 minutes, most often 3). Then they go back to the reception waiting area.
- Every number and time is an assumption. Put in your own hospital’s blood collection records.
2. The staff and the patients
The AI changed the staff taking blood (4, 5, 6) and the patients (150, 200, 250) (sweep_process_parameters), 20 runs each. 30 % are waiting at the opening. The longest wait is the mean over the 20 runs of each run’s longest.
| Patients | Staff | Wait (mean) | Longest wait | Waiting (most) | The last done |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| 150 | 4 | 20.8 min | 45.1 min | 43.9 | 11:31 |
| 150 | 5 | 12.2 min | 34.7 min | 42.2 | 11:31 |
| 150 | 6 | 8.2 min | 28.5 min | 41.0 | 11:31 |
| 200 | 4 | 43.6 min | 65.4 min | 64.5 | 11:56 |
| 200 | 5 | 24.6 min | 48.4 min | 59.3 | 11:33 |
| 200 | 6 | 15.5 min | 39.2 min | 57.0 | 11:33 |
| 250 | 4 | 69.4 min | 94.2 min | 94.0 | 12:47 |
| 250 | 5 | 44.1 min | 65.3 min | 80.3 | 11:57 |
| 250 | 6 | 27.7 min | 50.7 min | 74.6 | 11:34 |
- With 200 patients and 5 staff, the wait is 24.6 minutes on average and the longest 48.4. At its most, 59.3 are waiting.
- With 6 staff it is 15.5 minutes. With 4 it is 43.6, and the last is done at 11:56.
3. Those waiting at the opening
With 200 patients, the AI changed the share waiting at the opening (none, 30 %, 50 %) and the staff. “To back” is the mean time from coming to having had the blood taken and being back in the reception waiting area.
| Waiting at the opening | Staff | Wait (mean) | Longest wait | At the opening: to back | Who came later: to back |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| None | 4 | 23.3 min | 37.6 min | — | 27.8 min |
| None | 5 | 5.8 min | 14.2 min | — | 10.2 min |
| None | 6 | 1.4 min | 6.6 min | — | 5.8 min |
| 30 % | 4 | 43.6 min | 65.4 min | 32.3 min | 54.5 min |
| 30 % | 5 | 24.6 min | 48.4 min | 26.3 min | 30.1 min |
| 30 % | 6 | 15.5 min | 39.2 min | 22.4 min | 18.9 min |
| 50 % | 4 | 60.1 min | 101.2 min | 53.2 min | 75.6 min |
| 50 % | 5 | 40.5 min | 80.1 min | 43.1 min | 46.5 min |
| 50 % | 6 | 29.6 min | 66.1 min | 36.4 min | 31.6 min |
- With nobody waiting at the opening, even 5 staff keep the wait to 5.8 minutes on average: shorter than 6 staff when 30 % wait at the opening (15.5 minutes).
- When 30 % wait at the opening, with 5 staff those who come later (30.1 minutes) take longer than those who were waiting at the opening (26.3 minutes): the line at the opening stays on after it.
4. One more for the first hour
With 5 staff, the AI changed whether one more helps for the first hour from the opening, and the share waiting at the opening.
| Waiting at the opening | One more for the first hour | Wait (mean) | Longest wait | Waiting (most) |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| None | None | 5.8 min | 14.2 min | 18.1 |
| None | 1 | 2.2 min | 8.2 min | 11.6 |
| 30 % | None | 24.6 min | 48.4 min | 59.3 |
| 30 % | 1 | 17.1 min | 39.3 min | 57.0 |
| 50 % | None | 40.5 min | 80.1 min | 97.1 |
| 50 % | 1 | 32.2 min | 68.2 min | 96.0 |
- When 30 % wait at the opening, one more for the first hour brings the wait to 17.1 minutes on average: close to 6 staff all morning (15.5 minutes).
- With nobody waiting at the opening, one more brings it to 2.2 minutes.
5. How to use this check
- Draw your own hospital’s blood collection room (from a PDF of the drawings or photos too), and tell your AI the patients each hour, how many line up before it opens, the staff and how long a blood test takes. Your AI also puts extra booths on the drawing and checks them.
- Not checked: urine samples, tube preparation or reception machines, those who are hard to take blood from or children who take longer, the staff’s breaks, the time to take the samples to the lab, and the link to the consultations’ booked times.
