Start from the izakaya model (free sign-up). A restaurant is item (3)ロ of Table 1 of Japan’s Fire Service Act Enforcement Order. In this article, with the members’ izakaya taken as a single-storey building of its own, your AI checks the fire equipment. It ran the same tools an AI calls over MCP. Every figure and number below comes from that run.

1. The izakaya

Plan of the izakaya with the extinguisher
The kitchen that cooks over fire and the counter seats on the north-west, the tatami room on the north-east, the tables and booths on the south, an extinguisher by the entrance
  • A ground floor of 16.2 × 10.2 m = 165.24 m² on its outer walls’ centre lines holds a kitchen that cooks over fire and its counter seats, a tatami room, tables, booths, a staff room and a toilet.
  • In one change (edit_space) your AI puts an extinguisher on the wall by the register, west of the entrance. check_space finds nothing.

2. The extinguishers

  • Item (3) needs extinguishers whatever its total floor where it has equipment or appliances that use fire (Article 10(1)(i)ロ), unless they have the safety devices of Enforcement Regulations Article 5-4, such as a cooking-oil overheat guard. This one’s safety devices are not known, so it does.
  • The units are the total floor divided by 100 m², 1.65 (Regulations Article 6): one extinguisher of three units is enough.
  • From anywhere on the floor the nearest extinguisher is a walk of 13.12 m, within 20 m (Article 6(6)).

3. The automatic fire alarm and the indoor hydrants

  • Item (3) needs an automatic fire alarm from 300 m² of total floor (Article 21(1)(iii)イ). A ground floor of 165.24 m² does not.
  • A basement or windowless floor needs one from 100 m² of floor (Article 21(1)(x)): the same restaurant in a basement with no windows does.
  • Indoor hydrants are needed from 700 m² of total floor (Article 11(1)(ii)). None.

4. The exit lights

  • Item (3) needs exit lights and passage lights on every floor (Article 26(1)(i) and (ii)).
  • The counter seats, the tables and the booths see the entrance, within a walk of 10.31 m; the kitchen, the tatami room and the staff room do not, so none may be left out (Regulations Article 28-2).

5. Flame-retardant curtains and carpets

  • Item (3) is a building whose curtains and carpets must be flame-retardant (Order Article 4-3(1)): curtains, fabric blinds, carpets and the like with flame-retardant performance (Article 4-3(3)).

6. Using the check

  • Draw your restaurant (from a PDF drawing or photos as well), and tell your AI the floor it is on, the total floor, the equipment that uses fire and its safety devices, and the building’s other uses.
  • Not checked: the whole building’s fire equipment, whether the floor is windowless, the rules for the kitchen’s exhaust ducts, fire prevention management, and the local fire department’s guidance.
