Start from the kindergarten model (free sign-up). To open a kindergarten in Japan, its building and playground must meet the sizes and the rules on rooms of the kindergarten standard (幼稚園設置基準, a ministry ordinance). In this article, in the members’ kindergarten of three classes, your AI checks the standard and the fire code. It ran the same tools an AI calls over MCP. Every figure and number below comes from that run.
1. A kindergarten of three classes
- A single-storey building (24.0 × 18.0 m on its outer walls’ centre lines) holds three nursery rooms, the play hall, the staff room, the medical room, the children’s toilets and the entrance. The playground (25 × 16 m) is to its south.

2. The building and the playground
The standard’s Table 1 (the building) and Table 2 (the playground) set their size by the number of classes.
| Classes | Building (Table 1) | Playground (Table 2) |
|---|---|---|
| 2 | 320 m² | 360 m² |
| 3 | 420 m² | 400 m² |
| 4 | 520 m² | 480 m² |
- This model’s building is 24.0 × 18.0 m = 432 m² on its outer walls’ centre lines, and its playground 400 m²: enough for three classes on both.
- For four classes, the building is 88 m² short and the playground 80 m².
- How the building’s area is measured is for the prefecture that approves the kindergarten to say.
3. The rooms
- It has the staff room, nursery rooms, play hall, medical room and toilets, and the drinking water, hand washing and foot washing the standard asks (Article 9(1)). The three nursery rooms are no fewer than the classes (Article 9(2)), and the drinking fountain stands apart from the hand basins (Article 9(3)).
- The building has one storey. On two, the nursery rooms, the play hall and the toilets go on the ground floor (Article 8(1); on the first floor too in a fire-resistant building with what the children need to escape).
- A class has thirty children or fewer, as a rule (Article 3).
4. The nursery rooms
- The standard sets no size for a nursery room.
- Against a day nursery’s standard (児童福祉施設の設備及び運営に関する基準 Article 32, 1.98 m² a child from two), thirty children need 59.4 m². This model’s nursery rooms are 54.4 m², enough for 27.
5. The fire equipment
- A kindergarten is item (6)ニ of Table 1 of the Fire Service Act Enforcement Order. From 300 m² of total floor it needs an automatic fire alarm (Article 21(1)(iii)イ).
- At 432 m² it does. Your AI counts nine smoke detectors: one in each room and one in the corridor.
- From 150 m² of total floor it needs fire extinguishers too (Article 10(1)(ii)イ).
6. Using the check
- Draw your building and playground (from a PDF drawing or photos as well), and tell your AI the classes and the children in a class.
- Not checked: the prefecture’s rules for approval, the size of the site, the Building Standards Act, and where the extinguishers go.
