Start from the office floor model (free sign-up; running a simulation is Pro). At the end of the lunch break many go to the toilets at the same time, and those who brush their teeth take a washbasin for minutes. In this article, in the members’ office of 72 desks, your AI simulates the end of the lunch break. It ran the same tools an AI calls over MCP. Every figure and number below comes from that run.

1. The floor and the end of the lunch break

Plan of the office floor
Twelve islands of six to the west; in the core to the east the men’s toilet (two cubicles, three urinals, two washbasins), the women’s toilet (three cubicles, two washbasins), a single toilet, a pantry and the lift hall
  • 72 desks, with 40 men and 32 women at work at one time. The men’s toilet has 2 cubicles, 3 urinals and 1 washbasin; the women’s 3 cubicles and 1 washbasin; and there is a single toilet.
  • Japan’s office health standard (事務所衛生基準規則 第17条) asks, for 40 men, 1 cubicle and 2 urinals, and for 32 women 2 cubicles, or more. The floor has more. It asks for washbasins but sets no number of them (第18条第1項).
  • In one change (edit_space), the AI tagged the cubicles, urinals and washbasins and put a second washbasin in each toilet. check_space finds nothing. The simulation uses one basin or two in each. The single toilet is kept for those who need it.

The AI wrote this flow as a scenario (put_process_scenario).

  • 80 % of them (32 men, 26 women) go to the toilet as they come back to their desks from lunch, from 12:40 to 12:58.
  • 80 % of the men take a urinal (30 to 75 seconds, most often 45), the others a cubicle (2 to 8 minutes, most often 4). The women take a cubicle (1 to 5 minutes, most often 2).
  • Then those who brush their teeth take a washbasin for 1.5 to 4 minutes (most often 2.5), and the others wash their hands (15 to 40 seconds, most often 20), and go back to their desks.
  • Every time and share is an assumption. Put in your own office’s people and times.

2. Those who brush, and the basins

The AI changed the share who brush their teeth (none, 30 %, 60 %) and the basins in use (one or two in each toilet) (sweep_process_parameters), 20 runs each. At a urinal, men in a cubicle and women are the average from leaving the desk to coming back.

60 %120.6 min33.9 min19.4 min18.7 min4.4 min

  • With 30 % brushing and one basin, even those done at a urinal at once take 10.7 minutes on average to get back to their desks: 8.6 minutes waiting for a basin. With two basins, 4.1 minutes.
  • With nobody brushing, those at a urinal are back in 2.5 minutes. What fills up is not the toilets but the washbasin.
  • The women wait 3.8 minutes for a cubicle even with nobody brushing: 26 come to 3 cubicles at the same time.

3. A staggered lunch

With 30 % brushing, the AI changed whether half of them take their lunch half an hour later (a staggered lunch) and the basins.

  • With a staggered lunch, even with one basin, those at a urinal are back in 4.8 minutes and the women in 6.1. The women wait 0.3 minutes for a cubicle.
  • With two basins and a staggered lunch, those at a urinal are back in 2.9 minutes.

4. How to use this

  • Draw your floor (from a PDF of the drawings or photos too), and tell the AI the people, the lunch break and the share who brush their teeth. The AI puts any extra basin on the drawing and checks it.
  • Not checked: those who use the single toilet, make-up and changing, cleaning times, people from other floors, those who brush elsewhere such as the pantry, and the usual hours of the morning and afternoon.
