Start from the primary school model (free sign-up; running a simulation is Pro). At the start of a break many pupils go to the toilets at once. In this article, in the members’ primary school floor, your AI simulates a break at the toilets. It ran the same tools an AI calls over MCP. Every figure and number below comes from that run.
1. The floor and the break
- The boys’ toilet has two cubicles and three urinals, the girls’ three cubicles. In one change (
edit_space), the AI tagged the fixtures and put three more cubicles along the girls’ toilet’s east wall.check_spacefinds nothing, before and after. The simulation uses three of the girls’ cubicles or six.
The AI wrote this flow as a scenario (put_process_scenario).
- Four classrooms of 30 (15 boys and 15 girls each). In the two minutes after the bell, 40 % of the pupils go to the toilets.
- 80 % of the boys take a urinal (20 to 60 seconds, most often 30), the others a cubicle (1 to 4 minutes, most often 2). The girls take a cubicle (40 seconds to 3 minutes, most often 1).
- Then they wash their hands (10 to 30 seconds) and go back to the classroom.
- Every number and time is an assumption. Put in your own school’s pupils and times.
2. The pupils who go and the girls’ cubicles
The AI changed the share of pupils who go (20 %, 40 %, 60 %) and the girls’ cubicles (three, six) (sweep_process_parameters), 20 runs each. The longest wait is the mean over the 20 runs of each run’s longest.
| Pupils who go | Girls’ cubicles | Girls: wait (mean) | Girls: longest wait | Girls: back in class | Boys (urinals): wait | Last pupil back |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| 20 % | 3 | 2.1 min | 5.0 min | 5.0 min | 0.2 min | 10.0 min after the bell |
| 20 % | 6 | 0.4 min | 1.2 min | 3.1 min | 0.2 min | 7.2 min after the bell |
| 40 % | 3 | 5.9 min | 12.7 min | 8.7 min | 1.1 min | 17.7 min after the bell |
| 40 % | 6 | 2.0 min | 4.8 min | 4.7 min | 1.1 min | 10.7 min after the bell |
| 60 % | 3 | 9.9 min | 20.6 min | 12.8 min | 2.1 min | 25.8 min after the bell |
| 60 % | 6 | 3.8 min | 8.5 min | 6.6 min | 2.1 min | 14.3 min after the bell |
- With 40 % going, a girl waits 5.9 minutes on average at three cubicles, and is back in class after 8.7. With a break of ten minutes, the last pupil is back 17.7 minutes after the bell: late for the next lesson.
- With six cubicles, a girl waits 2.0 minutes on average, and the last pupil is back after 10.7 minutes.
- The boys, with three urinals, wait 1.1 minutes on average: it is the girls’ toilet that fills.
3. Breaks five minutes apart
With 40 % going, the AI changed whether classrooms 3 and 4 let out five minutes later, and the girls’ cubicles.
| Break | Girls’ cubicles | Girls: wait (mean) | Girls: longest wait | Girls: back in class | Boys (urinals): wait |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| At once | 3 | 5.9 min | 12.7 min | 8.7 min | 1.1 min |
| At once | 6 | 2.0 min | 4.8 min | 4.7 min | 1.1 min |
| Five minutes apart | 3 | 3.5 min | 7.8 min | 6.4 min | 0.2 min |
| Five minutes apart | 6 | 0.4 min | 1.4 min | 3.1 min | 0.2 min |
- With two classes’ breaks five minutes apart, a girl waits 3.5 minutes on average even at three cubicles: about 40 % shorter, without building more.
4. How to use this
- Draw your school (from a PDF of the drawings or photos too), and tell the AI its classes, the length of a break and the share who go. The AI puts any extra cubicles on the drawing and checks them.
- Not checked: the toilets on other floors, the number of sinks, pupils who go during lessons, the times before PE and lunch, and the staff’s toilets.
