Start from the hospital model (no sign-up needed; running a simulation is Pro). In Japan the evening meal is, as a rule, to be served to the patients on the ward at 18:00 or later (the Health Insurance Bureau’s notice on hospital meals, 保医発0305第16号, 5 March 2026). From the meal cart reaching the ward to the last patient, the round takes time. In this article, on the hospital model’s 2nd-floor ward of 38 beds, your AI simulates the evening meal round. It ran the same tools an AI calls over MCP. Every figure and number below comes from that run.

1. The ward and the round

Plan of the ward floor
The four-bed rooms and single rooms to the north, the nurse station in the middle, the lift lobby, the sluice, the pantry, the dayroom and four-bed rooms to the south, stairs at both ends
  • The 2nd-floor ward has 38 beds in nine four-bed rooms and two single rooms, 64 m long. The pantry is east of the lift lobby. check_space finds nothing.

The AI wrote this flow as a scenario (put_process_scenario).

  • At 18:00 the meal cart with the 38 patients’ trays stands in the corridor outside the pantry. With two, one stands towards each of the ward’s west and east ends, each with the trays of the beds nearer it.
  • Those handing out (nurses and aides) come from the nurse station, or from the last patient’s bed, to the cart, check the name and the diet on the tray (10 to 20 seconds, most often 12), carry it to the bed and set it on the bed table, helping the patient sit up (20 to 60 seconds, most often 30). Then they go on to the nearest cart’s next tray.
  • Every number and time is an assumption. Put in your own ward’s records.

2. The staff handing out, and where the cart stands

The AI changed those handing out (2 to 4) and the carts (one, two) (sweep_process_parameters), 20 runs each. Cart to bed is a tray’s mean from 18:00 on the cart to the patient’s bed; the longest a tray waits, the last tray served and the walk are means over the 20 runs.

Two (west and east)47.1 min11.9 min18:141,328 m
  • With one cart outside the pantry and two handing out, a tray waits 16.0 minutes on the cart on average, reaches its bed in 17.7 minutes on average, and the last tray is served at 18:33. The two walk 2,152 m between them.
  • With two carts, west and east, they walk 1,140 m, about half, and the last tray is served at 18:25.
  • With three handing out, even one cart serves the last tray at 18:22; two carts, at 18:17.

3. How to use this check

  • Draw your own ward (from a PDF of the drawings or photos too), and tell your AI the beds and where they are, the carts and where they stand, the time to check and set a tray, and those handing out. Your AI also runs and compares patients who need help eating, or carts shared with other wards.
  • Not checked: help with eating, the cart’s time to reach the ward by the lift, collecting the trays, patients fasting or away for tests, other wards’ rounds, and the staff’s other work.
