Whether furniture gets in depends not only on its size but on whether it can turn at the entrance and in the corridor, on the width and height of the doors, and on the way it is carried (upright, on its back, on its side). Here are two examples that an AI checked in earlier articles, in an empty 2LDK flat (two bedrooms plus a living-dining-kitchen): sofas, a mattress, a fridge and pianos. The AI used the carry check of check_space, the tool it calls over MCP: each piece is carried as a rigid box from the common corridor to its room, and turned at the corners and doorways.

1. Sofas (to the living room)

The low sofa goes straight in on its side; the wardrobe turns in at the front door and again into bedroom 1.

4. What they show

  • Big sofas cannot turn at the front door. The three-seat and the two-seat sofas do not get in; only the low sofa does, on its side (1.8 m high).
  • Most pieces get in when carried another way. The six other pieces all get in, the double mattress on end and the dining table on its side.
  • A piano depends on its depth. An upright piano can be carried in standing if it is no more than 0.60 m deep (living room, bedroom 1) or 0.52 m deep (bedroom 2). A full-size upright (0.62 m deep) gets into no room standing, but into every room on its side.

6. How to ask an AI

In this flat (as drawn), can a sofa 2.1 m wide, 0.85 m deep and 0.8 m high be carried from the common corridor into the living room? If not, where does it stop, and which way would it get in?

7. What this does not cover

  • The pieces are rigid boxes. Taking off legs, taking pieces apart and hoisting them through a window are not checked.
  • The carry starts in the common corridor outside the front door (1.2 m wide); the lift or stairs up to it are not checked. Check with your own building's sizes.
